Hi I'm Katherine! I'm the artist behind Penny and Pearl. This is a place where you will find one of a kind treasures handmade, collected or re-purposed by me. Sometimes treasure is found in the handmade and sometimes it is found in an unwanted junk pile. I'm combining my love for creating with my love for collecting and re-purposing.
I work out of my home studio and most days you can find me covered in clay. Making Pottery brings me a sense of joy and peace. I first learned to make wheel-thrown pottery in 2005 and I have been making functional stoneware on the wheel ever since. I hope that the same feeling that I experience in the creative process is translated through my work.
I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and spent my childhood summers at my grandparents home in Wilmington, North Carolina. As an adult I have moved across the country several times and gained a wealth of experience and inspiration along the way. My greatest inspiration came from living in Colorado and backpacking in the Rockies. Nature has always centered me in the same way that pottery has. You will often find elements of nature throughout my ever evolving art combined with the influence of living in different places. I currently reside in the foothills of western North Carolina with my daughters, husband, dog, cat and chickens.
It is so nice to meet you and I hope you will reach out and say hello or ask me any questions you may have.
